What does it mean when the doctor says "You're as healthy as a horse"?

The first thing I want to know -- what is my name? Barbaro?
Here's what I found.....

Healthy as a horse

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Through most of English-speaking history, a horse was the largest animal most people were likely to encounter, and various phrases using "as a horse" or "like a horse" meaning "to a very great extent" came into use. The OED2 mentions "strong as a horse" (which probably influenced "healthy as a horse" by the equation of strength with health) but also, ironically, "sick as a horse", and even "holy as a horse" which seems to show that the phrases don't have to refer sensibly to a real attribute of the animal. And of course we've got "eat like a horse" and "work like a horse" which do make some sense literally as well as fitting into the figurative pattern.

Does this help a "bit"??? Laughing

As big as they are, horses are extremely fragile. They are prone to colic and a multitude of leg problems. And a lot of other stuff. I don't take "healthy as a horse" to be a compliment!

Spoken as a horse owner of 19 years.
If I were you Ron I'd be careful not to break a leg!
