Why does Molly (and my other two dogs) lay right besides the fireplace when they nearly get a heat stroke??? I’m sitting right beside the fireplace, and I’m not moving, but Molly really doesn’t need to lie there, but she refuses to go to a cooler place?

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing yup!
Chewie lays in front of the corn stove and bakes himself too! I doubt it even penetrates through to his skin. Silly boy! Shocked
I thought this thread was going to be, "why don't they move out of the way?". Mine just stand right in front of me constantly, even more so when you are carrying something heavy. They don't like the heat though..
Well, I don't know the answer to this one. I always like to think that Pud stays close to the fireplace, when I am there, because he wants to be near me. Rolling Eyes Well, one can dream can't they?
Lucy used to do the same thing in front of our gas fireplace. She would be hot to the touch and panting heavy and still wouldn't move. Weirdo!
Maybe the same reason why we sit at the beach sweating in 100 degree weather trying to get a tan! Laughing Laughing

Molly gets her coat burn, it smells burnt hair all over the house Shocked
Wink My guess; hearts They want to be as close to you as possible. hearts

Doesn't matter if it is that hot that they nearly burn up. Phew! Wanna be with mum. Phew!
Cool My cat Pearl used to do the same thing when we lived in Michigan and had a fireplace. It would be hot as can be in front of the fireplace and there she would be lying cleaning herself in perfect contentment.
I now live in Florida, with a Tropical sun and both China and Violet will lay out in that hot sun and when they come in their coats are to hot to touch. I guess their coats protect them. They both love sun bathing.
Why don't they move? Well there where they are so you can trip over them. How many times has that happened? Me a lot. Laughing

Especially when they flop on the floor in the Kitchen while you are preparing dinner, step back, splatt on the floor. Twisted Evil

What does cooking sheepies smell like in front of the fire? Hot stuff I imagine Cool Laughing

Last night I had 4 of them down the middle of the kitchen, like a train........grrrrr. Good training for me, "How do I get dinner on the table using the least possible steps?"

When I'm fed up I bellow: GET OUT OF MY KITCHEN! and they all scurry like mice, including my husband Laughing Laughing
