How can Yuki understand NO unless it pertains to her?

If i tell the cats or lil J "NO" to something twice, then Yuki no longer lets them get away with it. Even if I tell her "That'll Do..." ...a command she knows, she will get super stubborn and refuse to stop barking unless I correct the action.

Examples:

1. the cat jumps on table or kitchen counter
2. lil j touches any of the kitchen drawers
3. j stands on the armrest of the couch
4. j attempts to move or stand on any chairs
5. queen cat herds koko (cat) in a corner and won't let her leave.

I get a huge headache b/c sometimes I've told lil J to go get a spoon, but the second he touches that drawer... we get an earful of barking followed by yuki running back and forth (from where lil j is and where I am). UGHHHH...

Yet if Yuki does something wrong, and I yell NO at least twice.... she ignores me. What's up with that?
LOL Selective hearing LOL She's helping, being a good nanny dog Laughing
I always wanted adog that would do this, i am now seeing the down side Shocked

I think it means I get irritated way too easily now that I'm pg!!!! My mom, who H-A-T-E-S Yuki (she's afraid of big dogs), gets mad at me for correcting Yuki because she feels it's a good alert system. I don't see it that way anymore. I see it as extremely loud barking that will ruin my son's hearing since it's normally done in his ear. Confused
just wanted to say... love your avatar Laughing
Awww, Yuki is such a sweet Nanny.... but I can see how you might be getting a headache, lol

I also LOVE your avatar... but that's just too much cute for such a small pic!!! You should have large copies made and framed and give them for gifts to your family members... I'm not even related to you and I'd put it on my desk Laughing Laughing Laughing
lol, people already think we're strange since there are more dog professional pics up in our house than there are of lil J or my husband and me.
I never thought about the downside of her being a good nanny dog. It just seemed like a very positive thing. I guess it would be annoying some times, though. She's so smart! I wonder how you could train her to let J do some new things as he grows up? And I wonder how it will apply to the new baby? Confused
I'd suggest different "No's" for different animals, 2 and 4 legged, but what with baby, little J, Yuki, cat........you'd end up going thru the whole:

"sssst, no, stop, anh-anh, nein" or whatever you'd come up with. much like a mother with several children who runs thru the list just trying to call one.
We were surprised he wasn't deaf by the time he was one (yuki used to bark at my belly). Forgot about it since lil J became a bigger boy to us and recently it's been eating at me again since when he does misbehave... Yuki looks directly at his face (ear) and barks.

I always go to Yuki immediately and tell her No BARKING or LEAVE IT (depending on what is going on), but all Yuki sees is: Bad Action, Must make you see, so you can stop it. She's SO hard-headed. Laying her down stops her from barking, but we repeat everything again as soon as the animals or lil J does something else.

Of course, lil J and the cats have learned that if they STOP the action, Yuki will STOP the barking. This part is nice especially when I've got my back turned and as soon as I turn around, both parties have stopped their annoying behavior. Problem is, they don't always want to listen to Yuki. I've thought about doing this. Yuki has figured out what Stop it J means or just me saying one of the cat's names... she races to see what the "issue" is. Rolling Eyes

No wonder she does so good at herding sheep.
Yuki's such a smart girl Laughing

Well, all I can say (not really helpful, I know Rolling Eyes ) is that with TWO little kids, this will probably get both MORE annoying AND more helpful....its much harder to keep an eye on two than one, and Yuki's watchfulness could be a lifesaver!

That is AWESOME!!!!!!! Oh I can't wait for Sydney (my cat) to see that! See, I'm not calling the dog Nanny for nothing!
