If you see only one concert in your life, what should it be?

Joan and I have seen only two concerts together, the most recent being Wayne Newton somewhere around 1999.

Let's guess what the first concert was.

Hint:::: It was in 1989. That rules out lots of new acts. Wink
OK Don't laugh' but I went to see a Elvis concert 1 yr before he died. I have most of his concerts on dvd,s. But I would love to be in the front rows when he was young.
Barry Manilow, although he is making a rather successful come back.
I would've liked to have seen Elvis in his heyday. Good looking Elvis, not chunky, on drugs Elvis.
I am a die hard Sarah McLachlan fan. No other person matters to me as far as singing goes. I went through hell to get to one of her concerts, to only get there late b/c of my roommate in the military. Her payback was equally bad though, and something I'm ashamed of now that I'm older. Shocked
i would want to see a palooza of prince, michael, maryjane girls, the time and rick james......
My ultimate concert was Bruce Springsteen. Once a Jersey girl, always a Jersey girl Very Happy I'd love to see him again.
I'm confessing... my last concert was Pink Floyd
Great concert - horrible crowd. That alone has
kept me from going to another concert. I was offered
tickets to the Nickleback concert a few weeks ago
and I declined them - what was I thinking?!
We went to see Bela Fleck and Michael Hedges both
several times and loved them. But those were very
small venue concerts, and Hedges is gone now.

Ron, I guess it really depends what kind of concert or
music you enjoy. I think there is a lot in a small venue
concert that you really don't get when the crowd gets
too large. But at the same time you aren't going to find
big names doing small concerts - so 6 of one I guess.

I've only been to 2 concerts-in the early 80's -Beach Boys& James Taylor.
My pick would be Jim Croce (hey! I can fantasize)
I fell asleep watching him on PBS the other night& bawled through the whole thing!
The last concert I went to was The Kinks, in 1988. They put on a kick@ss show. Any of my faves are too old to be performing live, but back in the day I saw: The Who (twice) The Stones, The Kinks (twice), George Harrison, Eric Clapton, John Mellencamp (back when he was Johnny Cougar), Willie Nelson and other I can't remember.

There's not an act I would want to see today.

Prince was a MAJOR disappointment. Luckily I got free tickets so it wasn't as much of a letdown as it would've been as if I had paid.

No one except Mandy would know or care about any of the current bands that I'd like to see now, lol. And I don't mean Styx. Twisted Evil

Styx puts on an amazing show!!!! I should know, I've seen it around 50 times now!

I can't believe that no one goes to concerts! If I go a weekend without seeing a show it's a sign of the apocalypse. Then again, I do get paid to see shows so maybe I'm in a completely different boat!

I do still need to see Barry Manilow in concert. Since he went to all that trouble writing Mandy and all. Rolling Eyes
I saw U2 in a high school auditorium in Auburn NY mannnny years ago, before they were "big", Orchestral Manuevers in the Dark (OMD) in a bar in East Syracuse, was Fedex driver to Marianne Faithful for about six months when she was living in Cambridge, and had a sidewalk chat with Lori Anderson outside the ART in Cambridge. I was just starting to do standup myself, when I met Judy Tenuta in the ladies room at a show in Boston...we had a nice chat sitting down....grr grr grr

Hey come on now, dont underestimate your audience here.

I grew up in the punk/hardcore scene so I saw bands play at least once a week for a good 6 or so years, but those were always hole in the wall clubs. I have seen a few good concerts in huge venues (Robert Plant and Jimmy Page was cool, so was the Who reunion!)
Who reunion!!! I'm with you there.

Robert Plant is still oddly sexy and I don't know why. I think that's a reason to see a psychiatrist!

Sorry, Heather! I forgot about you! You're in the loop, too. Smile I think VerveUp might be, too. I spoke too soon!
I would go see ANY live music, with exception to the popular country stars (old country stars are fine, like Johnny Cash or Patsy Cline (if they weren't dead, of course)). I've seen a lot of great shows in all different types of venues. Wish my husband hasn't become such a bump on the log, because now he never wants to go anymore. Evil or Very Mad
Last concert was the Eagles their Hell freezes over Tour... I would walk to see them again!!!!! They were our favorite in the 70's and are STILL the best. Take it the Limit is my favorite song of all times- and Hotel California is John's. Smile
OK. Nobody is guessing...

My first concert was Billy Joel on the Storm Front tour in the old Boston Garden. The accoustics were HORRENDOUS, but we enjoyed the show.

Oh! I just remembered, there's one more that I've been to!

Joan and I saw BB King in his own club on Beal Street in Memphis during our big trip. That was cool. I'm a big BB King fan.

Maxmm wrote:

I go to a ton of concerts, both local bands and touring acts. I love live music.

I was probably at the same Plant/Page concert as Heather - United Center?

Maxmm wrote:

I totally agree!

I saw the Beach Boys in concert outdoors at the old Midway Stadium before they tore it down (where the Twins used to play BB). Now that site is the Mall of America! (I was in HS and went with a group of girls - had a blast!)

Saw Vince Gill with my daughters for their b-day when they were about 12. The year he got entertainer of the year - very good show.

Saw Boston and Chicago (must be a city thing) and both were good.
Saw ZZ Top - with Todd and several BIL/SIL's . Musically it was a great live show. Really didn't need to see that many scantily clad chicks on stage, but the guys all loved it! Shocked
Holy Cow! I forgot - I did go to another concert!
A couple years ago my friend dragged me kicking and
screaming to a country concert at Penn State - the girl
with no shoes was the opener and the real tall blond
guy in the cowboy hat was the main act.
I am so not a country girl though, so I couldn't tell you
who they were. I recall something about 'little bitty'
if that's a clue. Totally forgetable concert.

Anyone listening to my ipod would get aural whiplash.
There are tons I'd love to see in concert, but not country!

Shellie
Greg and I have never been to a concert as such- we go to see lots of breakin stuff and there are sometimes funk bands there.

BUT on tuesday we are going to see THE BEASTIE BOYS! One of Gregs favourite bands Very Happy

I would love to have seen the Smashing Pumpkins when they had Mellon Collie out- my all time fave album -of all time- ever- all time Very Happy

It would be great to have seen the Eagles, ABBA, MJ in his prime and Madonna in the 80s.

OH I would LOVE to have seen Queen.
JAMES TAYLOR! My husband see him at least once a year (yes, I am an obsessed fan!) I once got free tickets to see him on The Carson Daily Show (NYC).
It was so much better than the larger concert arenas. JT was right in front of me Kiss hearts
When the show was over & we were leaving, JT was in the hallway.
I reached out to shake his hand & this old b%#*h clotheslined me w/ her walker. I almost fell on JT Embarassed Never got to shake his hand Sad
Johnny Cash would be cool.

And Frank Sinatra. At least in that case I could go see Harry Connick, Jr., since they sound similar.

Ooh, and the Cars! I love the Cars.
I saw Leon Russell in concert when I was really little, saw Steppenwolf and Molly Hatchet together when I was 13 (I thought John Kay looked HOT for an old guy), and a few years ago I saw Styx and Kansas together in concert with John Waite. They were all really good shows.

If I could though, I would love to go back in time and see Genesis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Roy Ayers, Pantera, Metallica (the S&M concert), Madonna (back in her "Borderline" days), Tupac, Dead Prez, U2, Bruce Springsteen (my biggest crush EVER), John Cougar Mellencamp, Paul Simon (the Graceland concert in Zimbabwe), and Peter Gabriel.

That would have been Alan Jackson and Deana Carter (Did I Shave My Legs for This?) Laughing I've seen tons of the country artists and quite a few other acts, too. But, I've not gone much in recent years. Once my sister, who was my concert buddy, got married and had kids, we don't go as often. Confused

Embarassed Embarassed Does anyone have a concert that they're embarrassed to admit they attended? Embarassed Embarassed
Since it's come up a few times - I did see Michael Jackson in his prime, at Madison Square Garden around 1987. The show was amazing and totally cutting edge. He set the standard that all of the other pop acts still follow. It's sad when you think of all the talent that he's wasted.

The best concert I've been to recently was the Alice Cooper Christmas Pudding show here in Phoenix. Alice gets a bunch of friends together every December to raise money for his Christian youth foundation. The 2006 show was one amazing performance after another - Stephen Stills, Don Felder from the Eagles, Tommy Shaw from Styx, Jack Blades from Nightranger, a few other famous guys, a few great local acts, and the original Alice Cooper Band. And, for some odd reason... Ace Young from American Idol. Anyway, the show was 7 hours long and the music was incredible. Can't wait to see the line up for this year.
Our last concert was (surprise) Jimmy Buffett.

I haven't been to a lot of concert, but some pretty good ones. I've saw Super Tramp when I was 8 months pregnant. It was a great concert, but the "pot" smoke in the air made me pretty sick.

A very long time ago, I saw Sammy Davis, jr. I think that will always be a very memorable one for me.

The worst? A couple years ago, we saw the Yes reunion tour. It sucked.
I actually got to see Sinatra in concert. It was cool but you could tell he was near the end. Had to have teleprompters every 3 feet to remember the lyrics and kept singing to us in the back instead of out to the regular people in the theater.

The show that I am really embarassed about? My first real "concert" Monkees reunion tour! Embarassed
My husband (who was just a potential boyfriend in 1979) came to my door one morning, shuffling his feet & stammering (he was so cute)
He wanted to know if I wanted to go to a Jim Croce concert!
I said as kindly as I could "hasn't he been dead for like 6 years?!!!!
So, he took MY suggestion. We skipped the concert, got married& had 4 kids instead!
I went to The Lettermen back in '65....but have been to a few recently Ronnie Milsap, Crosby, Stilles Nash and Young(twice), The Who, Bob Segar...he was the best who ya with the grandchildren The Wiggles
busy life.........
The only concert I ever attended was in St. Louis at Busch Stadium in 1965 or 66 when the Beatles came to perform...

It was such a crazy night... I was only 14 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday!!!

They were FAB!!!!! Laughing Laughing
oh, I so wanted to see the Beatles! I was 11 & my Dad wouldn't let me go to the concert in Atlantic City! Sad Sad Sad
Ooh, the Beatles would have been an AWESOME concert to go to!! You're so lucky!!
My first concert was when I was 13, which, let's see.....that would've been 1978 (gosh I'm old Shocked ). I went with my three girlfriends to see Shaun Cassidy. Laughing One of their Mom's drove us and we went into the concert by ourselves. We thought we were so cool. Cool Laughing

But, the concert I'm most embarrassed to admit attending is....... Embarassed Embarassed

BadaBing!

Milli Vanilli
I wanted to go to Woodstock, but I had to get up for kdg. the next morning!
I would have to say that my favorite concerts have been Jimmy Buffett. Not only do I love his music, he just puts on one @#$ of a show!

I used to go to shows all the time, both big venues and small punk shows, especially if my friends' bands were opening them...but I haven't been to any live show in forever. I miss it.

U2 put on a good show, Beastie Boys were fun...Rolling Stones were great--I saw them about 8 years ago and was amazed by their energy. I was a classic rock mostly kind of girl in high school so I saw Stevie Nicks and James Taylor and a bunch of others like that. Always wanted to see the Eagles--Peaceful Easy Feeling is an all time favorite song of mine...

I truly believe everyone should go to at least 1 Jimmy Buffett concert in their lives. Its not just the show on stage, but the show in parking lot that is a blast!!!!
My Dad wouldn't let me go to Woodstock either. Sad
I can clearly remember reading the Chicago Reader, and seeing the ads for Woodstock, and thinking how cool that would be to attend.

I just got my monthly concert update email - the Pumpkins are touring again. They'll be here in October. I read somewhere that they have most of the original band back together. You should check their schedule...

I saw them back when I was in high school and remember them being really good...I wonder if they still are after reforming and stuff...

Funny, I saw Sinatra too at the Philly Spectrum circa 1987? I also saw the Monkees reunion tour which was a lot of fun (that was a concert I was happy NOT to be up front since they aren't aging so well) .

My first real concert was the Journey Escape Tour in 1982. The last concert I saw, I think was Massive Attack or the Twilight Singers.

Someday, I would like to see David Bowie before he gets too old. And I would like to see The Cure & Bjork too.

Sue, my husband had a chance to see the Beatles too when he was around that age and his mom wouldn't let him. He always brings that up.
In High School I saw Genesis and they were just amazing. The 20 minute drum solo by Phil Collins was the most amazing thing I ever heard. Chicago and The Moody Blues puts on a great show. Just saw Lonestar and Charlie Daniels Band for the second time and they were both wonderful.

Who not to see: Kiss! The singing was terrible. It's amazing how good they can make these guys sound on an album. Also I saw them in their "no makeup phase" and boy are they an ugly bunch.

Tell your husband I feel his pain!

me....... Laughing Laughing

I know, I know, I was 14!!!!!!!!!!! Embarassed Embarassed
I think the Monkees reunion tops them all!!!!!!!!!! Where do you go from there????????????
Maudie's mom...cutest story about the Jim Croce concert...loved it!

VerveUp wrote:

OH YES!!!! Bowie, definitely a must see!!!

And Sinatra was in Hershey.

And as for Kiss! I was doing security for that show, don't laugh! I'm bigger than I look!, and I got to meet the guy who does Gene's women picking! He actually was checking me out until he saw a wedding ring and then recruited me to help him find some babes for "backstage fun".
I need to write a book about all the stuff I get myself into!
You are not bigger than you look, lol.
I can't believe I forgot Bowie!! I feel it's too late though.
HI I saw Phil Collins - would of loved to have seen drum solo like you did Pepsi mom. But if I could of seen anyone I mean anyone .... it would of been Kurt colbain of Nurvana. I loved him and the whole grunge scean. flannel shirts, ripped up jeans no make up those were the days Wink
ps I bough a milli vanilli cd please don't feel bad
Gosh.....let's see. I think the last concert I went to was a concert called "The 1975 Summer Review" with Ted Nugent...Molly Hatchet...Heart...Starland Vocal Band...and Boston. It was held outdorrs and it was like 98 degrees out...and at the time I had looong hair down below my waist. I baked through the whole concert becasue I thought I was "Too Cool" to tie my hair up. Shocked Ok....I was only a teen then. That being said....if I was going to another concert...I would love to see Cat Stevens. I know that's not his name now....it's some odd name that I can't pronounce. Rolling Eyes
"Starland Vocal Band"...is that Afternoon Delight?

What memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ClappingPurple
Yes......Afternoon Delight! Wink I almost forgot about that band. Razz
I forgot to say that I was at the original Live Aid... the whole stinkin' hot day in July, 1985. I was thankful that I was so dehydrated that I didn't have to use the bathroom once. If anyone was familiar with JFK stadium in Philly - they had prehistoric bathrooms.
In high school/early college I dated a guy who worked at a concert venue and I got to see a lot....Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Three Dog Night, James Taylor (with Carol King singing intro!), Gordon Lightfoot, Seals and Crofts, Earth, Wind and Fire. I did also get to see Cat Stevens, Celine Dion, Rod Seger and Bonnie Raitt, the Pointer Sisters. I'd LOVE to see Pink Floyd in concert! Last concert I saw was Peter, Paul and Mary, wow have they aged (duh,...and I haven't?)

Bellalover, I forgot to login....
I saw the Beetles when they were in Cincinnati. I was in the 3rd row. What i hated were the people who were standing up screaming in front of me so that I could not see or hear.
I have seen Kenny Rogers. I have also seen The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and I took my nieces to see Billy Ray Cirrus when Achy Breaky Heart was big. One of my favorites was a John Denver Concert. We got free tickets and it was great. I had forgotten I went to this many concerts.
I saw the Rightous Brothers and Paul Revere and the Raiders. We went and saw Waylon Jennings. He was standing there waiting for some lady to take his picture he finally said hey lady I'm not going to get any better looking so go ahead and take the picture now. I also saw Ike and Tina Turner years ago. Wow. I really have seen quite a few concerts. I guess that comes from living so long. Surprised Surprised
I have to agree that you need to see Jimmy Buffett at least once in a lifetime. My best friend and I saw him at Fenway Park a few years back, it was the most fun.
Sadly, I think I am outgrowing my annual ritual of seeing Dave Matthews Band. The music is the same, but the people around me keep getting younger and younger every year Confused
I have seen the Kinks 7 times...late 70's to early 80's. They were great then.
my most embarassing concert would have to be Rick Springfield!!! I had such a crush. I've been to tons of other great comcerts and some not so great, ranging from Janet Jackson-to-ZZ Top.
Well my dogs registered names are "...Margaritaville" and "...License to Chill" so of course I would agree everyone needs to go to a buffett concert - I dragged my sister last year and when we were telling our 72 year old aunt about it she piped right up with "Oh I'd like that too" So hopefully if Jimmy makes a return appearance in Orlando this winter I will be there with my daughter and aunt as well as my sister.

Surprisingly enough we saw Hank Williams Jr this year (he was with skynard who we actually went to see) and his show was amazing!!
I would of loved to of seen "Cat Sevens" live before he went all weird. Rolling Eyes

My youngest listens to his music now and so does his friends. Very Happy
I was at Woodstock ( I was only 13 ) and visiting and aunt in NJ. She let me go with my 3 older male cousins aged 16, 19, 21. Since then I've been a Grateful Dead fan. I've seen CSN&Y, Seals & Croft, John Denver, Elton John and numerous Celtic Rock bands. Floggin Molly's my favorite.
Just this past weekend Grand Funk Railroad and Three Dog Night were playing at an outdoor fest here in Metry La.
I wanted to go so I could remember what it felt like being a teenager again, however I ended up getting involved in rescuing a sheepie in Houston,Tx.
So much for trying to see what it felt like being a teen again,LOL.
Everything happens for a reason.
well..let's see...I slept through Elvis. Can't say I'd recommend that one. I think my favorite concerts would be Pat Benatar, Mary Chapin-
Carpenter at Baltimore's inner harbor on July 4th, and Martina McBride anywhere! In other words, I think the best concerts are the ones where this little woman gets up on stage and blows you out of your seat.
What should it be or what would it be? The should would probably be a christian concert. The would would be The Rolling Stones *or the Beatles if they were not almost all dead*. Last concert was Bob Seger Very Happy
I have seen more concerts than I can remember. Ranging from a couple country not a big fan of, to mostly rock. One of the best I think was Pearl Jam. I remember they got fined for playing over the allotted time. He Eddie Vedder (singer) said something along the lines of it is going to cost us x amount of dollars to continue to play but you all deserve it. They played for almost another hour and half. I think the show was 4 hours long give or take.

The latest show was a small venue 500 people in Denver, Bluebird theater. I saw Alice in Chains unplugged (acoustic) and up close. The band was awesome. Will remember that show for along time. I came home and for a week sat down and learned just about every song they played that night on my acoustic.

Worst show was Kiss horrible!!!!!!!!! and one that I am ashamed to say is some country chick with x girlfriend. Hated it.
