When you've been a mom for 2 years...

What does it mean when you've been a mom for 2 years, and had NO IDEA that newborn was a size of its own????

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? Is that why my son swam in his clothes for 3 months as a 5.10lb kid?

So as I pack my hospital bag, I told a friend I would pack 2 preemie outfits and two 0-3 month outfits. She said what about newborn?

preemie - up to 5-6lbs
newborn 5-8lbs
0-3 months 8-12lbs

Holy crap! <hits head> I have 0 newborn outfits and 100 0-3 month outfits. Reason to shop, I guess. Twisted Evil With my luck, this kid will be a giant and 8lbs when he's born.

Tell me I'm not the only one who didn't know this?!?!?! I got so many "newborn" outfits that were 0-3 months and not a single "newborn" outfit. You would think the sizing would be more specific. Like those stupid outfits you never put on because they say 6 months but what they really mean is ...they can wear it "up till" 6 months.
I did not know this.
Oh, "up to" ......I didn't know that either. So when is the bean finished baking? Hopefully Papa Bean will be back.
Mr. J should be back in time. Like a month (or so) from now. Smile

We have no idea on exact date because they can't predict who will get what flight once they leave the FOB.

ex: leave FOB nov 1st
go to kuwait. could stay there for even a week waiting for a flight and signing in/out equipment they brought.

then they head home and the flight can take 2-4 days depending on what they're given

baby bean is due feb 1, but i'm packing since 2 mommies due around me have already had their baby. both healthy.
You realize Feb 2nd is my birthday and Groundhog's Day, so you must wait until then... Wink Now a boy named Sue just won't do so I excuse you from naming him after me. Laughing
i only had 0-3 months clothes but then isaac who is now 2years 5 months was 9lb7 and 24 inches longs but they could not get him straight) he was in 12 months clothes at 7 months

i just bought his jammies for christmas and had to get an age 4!!!!! hes not fat at all if anything i would be happier if he had a bit more wieght on him rib i can seee his ribs but hes a fussy little boy

but hes so tall nearly 40inches in height it a nightmare everyone things hes much older than he is ! !

but i agree it a wonderful reason to go shopping !!!! enjoy them while they are tiny its gonna be a while until we have number 2 so i will have to enjoy your baby pics Smile

Wow, they were really early. I'm glad the little ones are doing OK. I hope you get closer to your due date!

It is not surprising that no one thinks of the newborn size, if they know about it, so many babies are bigger than that. I am sure that the new bean will not mind being dressed in a large thing, as long as the diapers fit. Laughing A lose diaper is not a joy to anyone, especially Mama. Smile

Laughing Laughing Laughing Now that's FUNNY
I've heard of newborn size and I know NOTHING about babies Laughing

I think a lot of people give you 0-3 month clothes for your newborn because they want you to be able to wear what they've given you for longer than the first few weeks...
When I got pregnant with my first son I went out and
got all kinds of newborn sized clothing. All of it - tee's
onsies, outfits, you name it. My son was almost 10 lbs
and none of it ever fit him. I ended up packing it all up
and keeping it anyway just in case- my second son was
even bigger - so I gave it all away.
It was so sad in a way that I had all this really nice stuff
and nobody ever used it! I gave it to a needy teenage
mother - and that felt good. I know she used it.

On another note though - I think it's really strange how
sizes vary from brand to brand. You'd think within a size-
especially newborn - they'd be closer to a standard. I guess
with washing and stuff some things shrink, but who in the
world has time to hand wash and hang all the baby clothes!

Shellie, I pray every night I don't have a 10lb baby. Laughing I already know this one will be bigger than lil J, and that scares me!

Don't worry... Cool
I wouldn't worry about the "newborn" clothes. He will probably only be able to wear newborn size for a week anyhow, right? I have no idea. Confused And don't they change clothes 100x a day? If something doesn't fit right, don't worry, he'll probably only wear it for an hour. Laughing
Yeah, my last kid wasn't a spitter, so I don't think he EVER changed his clothes and he normally slept in whatever onesie he had on that day.

Lil J didn't fit in his clothes for prob the first 2 months. Again, normally the second baby is bigger, and he's sure popping out of my belly, so who knows...
My babies were both 9 lb'ers so I never had anything less than 6 mos sizes Rolling Eyes
My son (firstborn) was 9 lbs and so he started out wearing 3-6 mos clothes. He was always in the 55-60th percentile range, which isn't all that far off the norm, but he was still always at least 2 sizes bigger than his age.

My daughter, on the other hand, was a peanut at 6 lbs 3 oz. She wore preemie clothes for the first 3 mos, then was always in the exact size for her age. And she always stayed a peanut, was ALWAYS in the 5th percentile. So what does that tell you about manufacturer's sizing when a child who is in the 5th percentile wears a size 1 at 1, size 2 at 2, etc.

Good luck!!
A kid I grew up with apparently reminded his parents of a peanut when he was born so they called him Peanut from then on...he was SO embarrassed to be called Peanut up through high school!
Well, I bought a few baby items today on ebay, and I had been copying and pasting the same message when I checkout with Paypal.

"thanks! can't wait to receive the item. I'll leave positive feedback once it arrives. hope for the same."

Not paying attn, I just paid for my last item, hit send, and looked up and had this as what I sent (which I guess I copied by accident while writing an email):

" I dropped a brussel sprout fart in here."

I can't imagine what this person is going to think.

I didn't know that newborn size and 0-3 were different. Confused
I figured they were the same size.

I do know that Hayley was too small for newborn and the 0-3 outfits I had ready for her at home. Even the preemie stuff that I ran out to get as soon as she was home was too big for the first couple of week.

One thing that is for sure is... all clothing companies sizes run differently and because of this Hayley grew out of a lot of clothes before I even tried to put her in them Rolling Eyes One of the brands that runs on the small side is Disney.
Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd post here that I was losing it. I'm just too tired.

I was getting lil J's food ready in a bowl (cordon bleu and green beans), and realized he needed water. Grabbed the bowl of food and proceeded to fill it with water. Sad Oh nooooo... it's almost worse than filling bottles of breastmilk that took forever to pump and realizing you forgot to insert a liner before pouring. Crying or Very sad
It is ok, you just need some sleep. Take a deep breath and remember soon you will have two more reasons to smile like a fool. Laughing Give the little one and his fuzzy brother a big hug and relax. Group hug

Please do not feel bad about not knowing about 'newborn' size. Unless you have a small baby (as your other guy was), 'newborn' is almost instantaneously obsolete. Unless you save a couple of things to dress up the newborn sized baby doll you buy your 4 year old, as I did. Oh, sure, if you want a couple of cute things for pictures and to show off baby to visitors and such, go ahead, or better yet, encourage your friends to get you such things. Save your money for more important, longer lasting items.

With my first child, I foolishly saved the beautiful (and expensive) outfit that a childless co-worker gave to me for my son's one month check up. I could barely get him in it. He wore it that one day, and a few days later when I stuffed him in it to take him to visit my workplace. After that, I didn't dare try.

Oh, and by the way. In about 10-12 years, your little angels will be ready to enlighten you about thousands of things you foolishly did not know until they told you.
