Norman's weird behavior (about a fish)

We have had goldfish for about 3 weeks now. Ryan won them at a carnival. He actually won two, but the second one didn't survive long. I think the bigger fish gave the smaller fish a heart attack. He kept smashing in to the smaller one. He is psychotic. Every time a light goes or Billy comes near the tank it starts spazzing out, he swims all crazy like he is trying to find a way out. The rest of the time he sits at the bottom of the tank and doesn't really swim.

I don't even think he is a real goldfish, more like the size of the feeder fish. I hate fish, so seeing him flip out makes me freak out because he looks like he is planning to make a break for it and try to jump out the tank. Twitchy I would freak so bad if it jumped out.

So I named him Norman as in Norman Bates because there is something seriously wrong with him and he is PSYCHO!!. He does not swim like a normal fish.

Anyone know anything about Goldfish?
No, but my daughter Lisa's betta was like that. He actually jumped out of his bowl and landed dead on her dresser. She maintains he had a heart attack!~

You obviously need to become shoal leader Cool
Feed him after he sees you eat
Don't let him swim through his little castle faster than you
Make him sit & wait before feeding
Always make him work for treats. Backflips, and balancing a little ball on his nose will work wonders

lmao!!!
I second that.
Maybe try sitting in his bed too.. Shocked
Crying or Very sad please dont start me about fish. Never ever keep Bettas in uncovered bowls. In the wild they breed by jumping from puddle to puddle...so they will jump out of a bowl or tank, not have a heart attack. Your goldfish is probably freaked out from the water . Have you used water conditioner in your water? If he is displaying the symptoms you say it is because he is being slowly poisoned by the water. You need to go to an aquatic shop and ask advice quickly. Laughing
He seems fine, just doesn't know how to be a fish.
I believe when he was living at the carnival he was kept in a garbage can. So that would explain why he freaks out when the light goes on.

Occassionally I will see him swim around, but for the most part he sits on the bottom and just stares.
I seriously think there is something just not right in the head with him.

The water is fine, so no problems there. Just did a water change yesterday.

On another note: I said I would NEVER allow fish into my house.
My Dad had fish when he was younger. He had his entire basement filled with 50 gallon tanks and all sorts of different fish. When he moved in with my Mom he only took one tank and got rid of the rest of his fish.

When I was a baby they would put my playpen next to the fish tank so I would have something to look at. That something to look at scarred me for life when the red tailed swordfish would jump out. This was something they just loved to do. Dad said they always committed suicide.....
INTO MY PLAYPEN!! Shocked

I have never been able to handle the site of a dead fish. Something about it totally freaks me out, especially the floating kind. I cannot even walk through the fish dept at PetSmart, because there is always at least one. YUCK!!!
Please dont visit me then I have tanks everywhere....I love my little fooshies!

My uncle actually wrote a book about training goldfish to do tricks. It's out of print now, but it really works. My s-i- taught her fish to play basketball using a pingpong ball and a feeder ring (she needs a life).
I myself have never been good with fish. When I was younger I had a goldfish and when we moved we gave it to my friend whose basset promptly drank from the tank and ate it.
A couple of years ago I had 2 betas, I was getting ready to clean one of their tanks and put him next to the sink while I got the other tank ready. He promptly decided to "commit suicide" and jump out of the tank and into the food disposer in the sink. The second beta soon followed in the first ones fins.
Fish and I dont seem to get a long very well. A coworker of mine has an Oscar fish and she loves him and he loves her. He will also bite her but you can definitely tell when he is happy or upset. She even says that he has nightmares and splashes sometimes at night. A fishy personality.

OES4ever, My ex-husband had Oscars. We feed them goldfish. Laughing
They were pretty cool, we had them for a few years. Then one got Pop Eye and we tried anti-biotics but they didn't work. The guy at the fish store said to remove the sick one and kill him before the the other one got sick. But the other one still got sick.
I was kinda of happy. It really disgusted me to see the Oscars swimming around with goldfish in their mouths. Shocked
